This CLE course will prepare healthcare counsel to advise and guide healthcare providers, medical staff, and hospitals working towards medical staff bylaws compliance with Joint Commission standards, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Conditions of Participation, National Practitioner Data Bank (NPDB) requirements, and other applicable federal and state laws.

Peer review, encompassing credentialing, privileging, corrective actions; governance, including membership, leadership selection, voting, committee activities; and hearings, appeals, and reporting requirements are all medical staff bylaws issues bedeviling healthcare lawyers and physician leaders.

Medical staff bylaws must comply with accreditation and CMS standards, NPDB requirements, and other federal mandates, in addition to state-specific regulations, creating technical challenges for medical staff and hospital attorneys.
