This CLE course will provide renewable energy counsel with in-depth guidance on recent regulations, federal and state initiatives, and legal integration challenges for offshore wind development with a focus on California. The panel will discuss recent federal and state regulatory developments and challenges, renewable energy project incentives and opportunities under the Biden administration, environmental considerations, best practices to minimize litigation and delay, and other key items.

Description

Federal and state regulations and initiatives toward clean energy have provided a significant boost in offshore wind development and integration on both coasts. To take advantage of this, renewable energy counsel, developers, and investors must be aware of the legal challenges of offshore wind development and integration and applicable regulations. This panel will concentrate on offshore wind development off the California coast.

Recent regulations, integration of storage solutions, and expansion of transmission systems present new challenges for offshore wind energy projects. Developing offshore wind power requires an in-depth analysis of current federal and state regulations, and other vital considerations to protect the interests of investors and developers.

Companies seeking to develop offshore wind energy projects must adhere to state and federal policies, acquire rights through the appropriate channels, and secure a complex web of permits to move an offshore wind project from development, through construction, and into operation. Failure to successfully navigate any of these challenges can result in a shelved project and potential litigation.

Listen as our panel discusses the best practices for permitting and developing offshore wind energy projects, overcoming regulatory issues, and protecting client interests.
