This CLE course will guide employment counsel and employers on how to navigate the overlapping (and sometimes conflicting) local, state and federal employment laws. The panel will focus on trending areas of law such as paid sick and family leave, minimum wage laws, maternity considerations, and a fair work week.

Description

While the federal government works to reduce regulations on businesses, states and cities are increasingly enacting laws. This trend has created a patchwork of laws and regulations that causes compliance difficulties for employers.

While the compliance challenge for multi-jurisdiction employers is obvious, the solution is less so. Companies and their counsel must decide whether to follow the rules for each location or approach the issue more holistically, creating common guidelines to use across the board.

It is critical that attorneys understand the potential conflicts created by the overlap of various federal and local laws. The solution is not always as simple as implementing the most strict version of a law company-wide; individual laws can have notice requirements, for example, meaning employers must pay close attention to federal, state and local laws to ensure total compliance.

Listen as our distinguished panel guides employers and their counsel on how to navigate overlapping federal, state and local employment laws. The panel will discuss strategies for creating compliant policies for multi-jurisdiction employers and best practices for keeping abreast of this ever-changing area of law.
